Race For Life

I was going to blog about all of the hedges that we've been cutting over the last week, but I feel that the events of today need a post of their own. It's Sunday, Father's Day, and also more importantly, the day that Amanda, Claire and Rebecca ran 5k to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

There were 5000 women of absolutely all ages, from a four year old to some in their nineties taking part. This one event alone raised nearly £400,000 pounds for the cause.

The girls, numbers 70, 71 and 72, were ready now!

And as the numbers swelled, the Bournemouth Pier approach became one vast sea of pink. An awsome sight that was truly an inspiration to anyone who witnessed it.

And pretty much everyone carried some sort of tribute to a loved one or friend who was either fighting, or had lost the fight against this dreadful illness.

On stage were a local DJ to whip up the crowd of runners.

And a local keep fit instructor led all 5000 in a musical warm up.

And then it was time to set off. Hugs and good wishes were given to all the amazing ladies, and they set off in one massive fund raising run.

The rest of us waited at the finish line expectantly, waiting for the first of the runners to show, and at first they came one by one. Then more and more, until the crowds of wonderful women came across in numbers too numerous to count.

And among them, these three very special ladies, medals around their necks and beaming smiles.

I would personally like to thank all 5000 for such a spectacular effort, and for raising such a huge amount to fight an illness that any one of us could face at any time.
