Romeo & Juliet

As some of you may have gleened from my profile, I love ballet and opera, and indeed all stage and theatre in general. Ballet though is top of my list. The highlight so far  for me was to see the Royal Ballet perform Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House, and in the best seats, well if you are going to do it, do it, as my grandmother used to say!

Tonight, the suit and evening coat will be dusted off once more, mother of pearl cufflinks polished, and hip flask charged, for I am taking Amanda and her mother to see the English National Ballet perform Rudolph Nureyev's version of Romeo & Juliet at the Mayflower Theatre. It's 8am in the morning and I am already getting buzzy and excited. More tea I think. And not an easy task to perform when one is leaping across the kitchen to the cd player blaring out Sergei Prokofievs 'Montagues and Capulets' I can tell you!

  1. Take two hip flasks, just in case. I'm not a fan of ballet, but I do occasionally do a bit of classical music and theatre, so I get the buzz of it all.

    Enjoy it!

  2. Mr IG,
I may just do that. After all, there are two inside pockets in my jacket and it would just simply be a waste not to use the spare for something!

  3. I think someone needs to produce a movie about your and Amanda's life of searching for chestnuts in the woods, romantic vacations ,and landscaping assignments and a man that enjoys opera and ballet. Don't understand why you need a flask of anything to enjoy the ballet, the music and the atmosphere would be enough. Keep us up to date , take care, Gina

  4. Hi Gina,
There are two intermissions in this ballet, and the queues for the bar area get mad, and so stay in our seats usually, buy an ice cream tub, and just soak up the buzz. Thanks for your nice comments, and by the way, love your new blog header picture!

  5. Dear Gary, This will indeed be a treat. The music alone is wonderful but nothing can match the thrill of a live performance with such talented dancers. Enjoy!!

  6. Lucky you! It's nice to have access to such great places for ballet, opera, etc. Love the music in Romeo and Juliet.
