Manon

We had a lovely weekend. Took ourselves up to London for a couple of days as we had tickets to see The Royal Ballet perform Manon at The Royal Opera House.
A pre-show glass of champers in the beautiful Floral Bar was called for, whilst trying not to notice the guy wandering around in a bright blue suit!

An absolutely beautiful room, with a design slightly reminiscent of Paddington Station. Then it was into the theatre to take our seats.

A hush fell over the audience as the orchestra tuned up, and expectancy and excitement filled the air!
Then the lights went down, the curtains opened, and the ballet started.....

........and what a performance it was, faultless and moving, in three parts, and so we needed a little more refreshment at one of the intervals.

Needless to say, after the  performance we were a little hungry, and so the italian restaurant around the corner provided the perfect meal to end the day before retiring to the hotel.

The following day we had arranged to meet a very dear friend for lunch, and so the morning was spent in the National Portrait Gallery.........

........and wandering around Covent Garden before meeting him at Piccadilly.

A lovely few hours eating and talking and catching up in a vegetarian restaurant before crashing down on the grass at Soho Square to round off the meeting. Altogether a perfect end to the weekend.

Hmmmmmmm...........back to the reality of work now I guess!

  3. What a lovely weekend. I've seen Manon several times. one wonderful production with Sylvie Guillem and Jonathan Cope and another in Paris with Jean-Guillaume Bart as a suitably tempting des Grieux! We had orchestra seats for the latter and it was fantastic. I note that your production had great reviews.
