Time Out

All Ye who spellbound wander here, and sense the peace within,
Relax awhile, take forth renewal, to counteract life's din.

A short verse that was to be seen on a small bronze plaque, in a hidden corner of Compton Acres Gardens when I worked there a long, long time ago.

It's a slow process getting back into the swing of thing's workwise, as by 2pm I hit a wall and need to sleep, if only for a while. I needed to immerse myself in a garden somewhere to feel more 'restored', and so we headed to Lacock Abbey for the weekend.

It was a beautiful and sunny day. The sound of birds were everywhere, and although it was bitterly cold, the sun was wonderfully warm on my face.

The place is famous for being the home of the inventor of the world's first photographic images, and I used my modern day phone camera to take a picture of the same window that was to be the first ever negative to be developed.

As we walked around the gardens, we came upon some National Trust volunteers. A cheerful bunch as they pruned the Laburnum arches.

We went back the following day, to gain further rest and peace, and in between we stayed at The Pear Tree Inn, where we ate well, and rested well.

Spending lot's of time reading in our quiet room.

That was a couple of weeks ago, and April is nearly upon us. Emails, phone calls and post are starting to arrive thick and fast, as the work schedule is gearing up quickly. I can get away without an afternoon nap now, as long as I 'crash out' on returning home. It's nearly Thursday, and we are off to Marrakesh to re-charge a little more before the mayhem.

  5. Sounds like a good break - reading, gardens, an abbey, an inn. Perfect!

  6. Ahh, that sounds like a beautifully relaxing break. The photo above the line "The garden is just about the most informal 'formal' that I have had the pleasure to be in" intrigues me--the walls of plants along a path. 'Marking that idea for future gardens.

I hope April is good to you.
